Usage Notes

Black tubing measuring 3 to 5 meters is the one specialty item on the list. Everything else, including a shallow cardboard box, aluminum foil, clear plastic wrap, tape, two containers, a thermometer, scissors, a ruler, and a stick for propping, is likely already on hand. The sheet includes a bold safety notice: the tubing and water can get very hot after time in the sun, so adult supervision is required, especially when using scissors or a box cutter to cut holes in the box.

Printing Tips

Twenty-four pound copy paper is fine for desk work, but the data table gets filled in outdoors over 90 to 180 minutes. A clipboard with a loose sheet holds up better than a bound notebook in direct sunlight. Laminating is not practical here because students write new temperature readings at every interval.
