Alcohol is on the materials list, specifically denatured methanol or isopropyl at 70 percent or higher, which makes adult supervision non-negotiable for this experiment. Carbon rods or graphite electrodes, around 6 to 8 inches long, are the specialty item here. The sheet notes that graphite rods from old batteries or carbon arc rods work well, and the remaining supplies (AA batteries, copper wire, alligator clips, a shallow dish) are standard household or hardware-store finds.
