This lab sheet guides your student through building a double helix using red licorice twists, toothpicks, and small gumdrops or jelly candies assigned to each of the four nitrogen bases: adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine. Your homeschooler records a hypothesis, follows a six-step procedure that includes choosing a base sequence and gently twisting the backbone into a helix, then draws and labels the finished model in the results section.
