Conjunctions Worksheet And But Or So Because

And, but, or, so, because: five conjunctions, three exercises, zero confusion. This conjunctions worksheet and but or so because introduces each word with a definition, an example sentence, and a matching illustration before students practice independently.

The page opens with a color-coded reference chart across the top, one column per conjunction, each showing a short definition and a sample sentence with the conjunction highlighted. Small clip-art illustrations anchor the meaning visually, an apple and banana for “and,” rain clouds for “but,” a mug and juice for “or,” a jacket for “so,” and an open book for “because.”

Three numbered exercises follow. The first asks students to circle the conjunction in five complete sentences. The second presents five fill-in blanks with all five options listed in parentheses as a built-in hint. The third shows five picture cards, each labeled with one conjunction in parentheses, and asks students to write an original sentence using that word. The conjunctions worksheet and but or so because moves from recognition to selection to production, which gives the session a natural, low-pressure arc.

Five coordinating conjunctions, one clear page: the conjunctions worksheet and but or so because covers identification, fill-in, and sentence writing.

Usage Notes

Colored pencils work well for the reference chart at the top: students can trace each conjunction in its matching color to reinforce the visual coding. Fine liners are ideal for circling conjunctions in Exercise 1 without smearing into the answer lines below. Keep alcohol markers away from the fill-in blanks, as bleed-through on standard copy paper can obscure the printed hint text.

Printing Tips

Draft or eco mode handles this page cleanly since the line art is simple and the text is large. Scaling down to 90 percent fits the three-exercise layout more comfortably on letter-size paper without crowding the writing lines in Exercise 3.
