Adverbs Describing Verbs Worksheet, 3rd Grade

Quickly, carefully, outside, every day: the adverbs describing verbs worksheet that gives third graders a concrete way to see how a single word changes an entire sentence.

Two clearly structured exercises fill this page, each introduced with a numbered green circle and bold instructions. A yellow definition box at the top explains how, when, where, and how often, illustrated by a cartoon boy running with the label ‘He runs quickly’ beside him.

Exercise one pairs five sentences with three adverb choices each, asking students to circle the correct one. Exercise two offers a word bank of five adverbs, including silently and carefully, and five fill-in-the-blank sentences to complete. A cheerful blue bird cartoon anchors the lower right corner. The adverbs describing verbs worksheet moves at a steady pace, open enough for younger writers and detailed enough to hold attention.

Sharpen grammar skills with this adverbs describing verbs worksheet covering how, when, where, and how often. Suits third graders perfectly.

Usage Notes

Watercolor pencils are overkill here since there is nothing to color, but a set of colored pencils works well for circling answers in exercise one without bleeding through. A fine liner or ballpoint pen handles the fill-in-the-blank lines in exercise two cleanly. If students want to highlight the adverb word bank, use a light-tipped highlighter cautiously so it does not obscure the text beneath.

Printing Tips

Portrait orientation is already set, but scaling to 95 percent prevents the edges from clipping on home printers with narrow margins. Standard 20 lb paper is fine, though 24 lb gives the fill-in lines a slightly crisper feel when students write with pencil.
