Bug Trace the Numbers 1-5 Worksheet, Ladybugs to Caterpillars

One ladybug, two bees, three butterflies, and counting keeps going from there. This bug trace the numbers 1-5 worksheet pairs dotted number tracing with a right-column bug count for each row.

Each of the five rows on this bug trace the numbers 1-5 worksheet is divided into three columns: a bold color-filled numeral with its word label on the left, a large dotted tracing guide with a directional arrow in the center, and a counting scene on the right showing the matching number of bugs. The bugs change with each row, moving from a single ladybug through pairs of bees, a trio of butterflies, four green caterpillars, and five ladybugs arranged across two rows at the bottom.

Kids trace one number at a time and then confirm the quantity by counting the bugs beside it, which keeps the two skills connected rather than separate. It sits comfortably inside the homeschool collection as an early numbers page for pre-K and kindergarten learners who are just starting to form digits with a pencil.

Usage Notes

The dotted tracing guides are large enough for a chunky beginner pencil, which also erases cleanly for repeated practice. Gel pens work well in the center column if the sheet is used as a show-and-display piece rather than a practice page. Laminating the sheet and using a dry-erase marker lets kids reuse it indefinitely without printing another copy.

Printing Tips

Heavier paper around 90 lb card stock holds up better when small hands press hard during tracing and reduces any show-through from markers used on a laminated copy. Print a small stack at once if several children will be working through the page independently.
