Building a Simple Speaker Lab Sheet, Magnet and Coil

Usage Notes

Neodymium magnets are the only specialty item here. The rest, enameled copper wire in 30 to 32 gauge, a cardboard or plastic cup, tape, scissors, and an old headphone cable, are household or easily sourced. The safety panel flags that neodymium magnets can pinch fingers hard and should be kept away from credit cards, electronics, and pacemakers, so review those cautions with your student before the build begins.

Printing Tips

Cardstock at 65-pound weight keeps the sheet flat on a work surface while your student’s hands are busy with wire and tape. Slip it into a plastic page protector if you want to reuse the observation lines across multiple attempts without reprinting.
