Swap the blank notebook page for a current events analysis template that actually tells a kid where to start, from sourcing the article to forming their own opinion.
Eight numbered sections fill the page in a clean two-column layout. Event Information captures the title, date, source, author or reporter, and URL or citation. Summary asks students to retell what happened in their own words, while Key Details prompts the classic who, what, where, when, why, and how. Context, Analysis, Impact, and Your Thoughts sit in paired columns across the middle of the sheet, each with five to six ruled lines. A full-width Connections section at the bottom asks how the event ties to the student’s life, community, or broader history. A Proverbs 31:8-9 footer is printed at the bottom of the page.
This current events analysis template is built for weekly news study, whether your family reads a print newspaper, pulls articles from an online outlet, or listens to a news podcast together. The Name, Date, and Week Of header fields make it easy to file completed sheets chronologically, and it fits naturally into the Homeschooling Forms collection for families who keep organized records by subject. Students with smaller handwriting will comfortably fit full responses in each section; students who write large may want to use it as a guided discussion sheet alongside a separate lined page.

Fine liners in the 0.3mm to 0.5mm range suit the ruled lines throughout, which are closely spaced in the two-column sections. Pencil works well for younger students who may want to revise their Analysis or Your Thoughts answers after a family discussion. The sheet is worth laminating for dry-erase reuse if you do current events weekly, though the Event Information fields are specific enough that most families will prefer fresh printed copies each time.

Single-sided printing on standard 20 lb copy paper is fine for weekly use. If you plan to keep these in a binder alongside other subject records, add a left margin of about half an inch in your printer settings to leave room for hole punching without clipping the Event Information section.
