Nearly everything on the materials list is a household item: a pizza-box-size cardboard box, aluminum foil, black construction paper or paint, clear plastic wrap, tape, and a ruler. Mesh screens or cooling racks and a kitchen scale are listed as optional specialty additions. The safety note at the bottom flags scissors and box cutters as adult-supervised tools, so plan to be hands-on during the cutting steps.

Printing Tips

Twenty-four-pound paper handles repeated pencil entries better than standard copy weight, especially for the data table columns filled in across three days. Print one sheet per student and keep it loose on a clipboard near the dehydrator so readings can be logged on the spot without hunting for a notebook.
