Tier 2 Words Vocabulary Building Worksheet

Five high-frequency academic words, four activities, one tier 2 words worksheet that covers meaning, usage, and reading comprehension all on a single page.

A clean, structured page opens with a two-column table where students write the meaning of each word in their own words, with small cartoon illustrations beside every row. Three more activities follow: a fill-in-the-blank section using a word bank, a sentence-writing column, and a short paragraph at the bottom where students circle the tier 2 words they spot in context.

The words targeted throughout this tier 2 words worksheet are important, solve, surprised, compare, and explain, a set that shows up constantly in test directions and informational texts. Activities shift between recognition, recall, and production, so the session moves through different kinds of thinking rather than repeating the same task five times. Difficulty stays accessible without feeling simple.

Build academic vocabulary with this tier 2 words worksheet covering important, solve, surprised, compare, and explain across four activity formats.

Usage Notes

Alcohol markers are not the right call here because the page is dense with answer lines and the ink would bleed through standard copy paper. Colored pencils are better for lightly shading the header banner or the word bank box to help sections stand out visually. Fine liners work well if a student wants to write neatly in the small table cells without the tip catching on the lines.

Printing Tips

Standard 20 lb copy paper handles this page fine for classroom use, but bumping to 24 lb keeps the bottom paragraph box from showing through when students write on the back. Scale to 100 percent so the answer lines and table cells print at full size and leave enough room to write.
