Vocabulary Study Sheet with Part of Speech Checkboxes

Five words, five columns, and a built-in self-quiz at the bottom: this vocabulary study sheet printable turns a list of terms into a full study session without any extra prep.

Each of the five numbered rows contains a word line, a part-of-speech checkbox group (noun, verb, adjective, adverb, or other), a wide definition column labeled write in your own words, an example-in-a-sentence column, and an optional synonyms column. At the bottom, two side-by-side sections round out the page: a Review box that prompts students to cover the word column and write each term from memory across five numbered lines, and a Notes and Connections box for reminders or real-life usage.

This vocabulary study sheet printable suits any subject, since the Subject/Topic header lets you label it for literature, science, history, or a foreign language unit. The definition and sentence columns are generous enough for a sentence or two, while the synonym column is intentionally narrow so students treat it as a quick reference rather than a second essay. The self-quiz section makes it genuinely useful for test prep, not just note-taking.

Usage Notes

Gel pens or medium-point ballpoints suit the definition and sentence columns well, since those cells are wide enough to hold a full sentence without crowding. The part-of-speech checkboxes are small, so a fine liner or a sharp pencil keeps ticks tidy and inside the boxes. Laminate the sheet and use dry-erase markers in the word column only if you want students to self-quiz repeatedly without printing fresh copies each week.

Printing Tips

Standard 20 lb copy paper works fine for single-sided printing, but if students will be flipping back to this sheet throughout the week, 24 lb paper holds up to repeated handling without curling. Leave a slightly wider left margin in your printer settings if the sheet is going into a binder, since the Review section sits close to the left edge.
